Julie London

JulieJulie London (nee Peck) was an American actress and singer who toured for more than 40 years. London, a torch singer famous for her soft, soothing singing voice and her smooth, languid contralto was a recording artist on more than thirty albums of jazz and pop standards between 1955 and 1969. Inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame in 2001, she recorded "Cry Me a River" which she had introduced to her debut album. London was also nominated in 1974 for the Golden Globe Award for her part as Dixie McCall, a nurse on Emergency! London was born in Santa Rosa to vaudevillian parents. Her acting career began as an actress , while she worked as an elevator operator in downtown Los Angeles. London's 35 year acting career began with film in 1944. It included roles as the female lead in various westerns. In the mid-1950s she signed a recording contract with Liberty Records, marking the beginning of her professional music career. The album she released was her last studio album in the year 1969, however, she continued to be a hit in the female lead role of nurse Dixie McCall in the television show Emergency! (1972-1979), where she co-starred with Bobby Troup. Jack Webb, her ex-husband, produced the show.
