As a university student Sarkeesian was interested in the issues surrounding gender equality and the rights of women from a young age. An ambitious woman who wanted to start a web-series examining the gender representation of video games, she was targeted by an internet-based campaign. The incident did not deter her, rather it strengthened her determination as a feminist critic of media. She has won numerous awards for her numerous prominent contributions to the field of feministism.
